Many Government & Independent organisations have documented the long term health effects that toxins in the home may have on our health. It is only recently that we have started to focus on and consider the hidden hazards lurking in widely sold building materials, personal items & household products & food items.

Did you know there are many hidden health hazards lurking in your home that may be partly responsible for health issues, allergies, respiratory problems or even a bad night’s sleep?

Everyone spends approximately a third of their life asleep! This is also the time for the body’s rest, repair & healing, therefore making it so important to have a toxic free sleep.

As consumers we are not protected from chemicals sold in furniture, bedding items, carpet, food, cleaning products, cooking utensils, and personal care products.

The best way to reduce the chemical contaminants in your home is to choose wisely the products you regularly buy & read all labels.

To create a Healthy Home make an Inventory of all the products you use and check the labels, and choose only chemical free or certified organic products that promote good health.

Time to do a quick Healthy Home Check List, as you may realise that you may have been suffering from health problems associated with the accumulation of toxins whilst you sleep.

Formaldehyde- is one of the most significant hazardous problems in made-made materials.

  • VOC – volatile organic compound emissions. A common VOC found in the home is formaldehyde, which can enter the body easily with the inhalation of fumes.
  • Formaldehyde is classified by NOHSC ( National Occupational Health & Safety Commission) as a category 2 carcinogen. Exposure to formaldehyde may cause eye, nose & throat irritations, skin & lung allergies, throat spasms or asthma like allergy, shortness of breath, skin burns and more serious damage.

  • In general, indoor environments have higher concentrations of formaldehyde due to the accumulation of VOC emissions from soft furnishings and furniture especially, bedding-mattresses (some latex or polyurethane foam) plastic blinds and upholstery such a man-made fabric lounge chairs. Check all labels before purchase.

With this in mind be careful with your choice of home furniture, as you may be sleeping and living with products in your homes that have been processed using formaldehyde and toxins.
